It’s never too late to get your smile back! Over time, indulging in life leaves color on our teeth. It’s perfectly normal and nothing to feel embarrassed about. Certain beverages and foods are naturally harsher on our mouths. We can’t expect to able to abstain from all of our favorites, but we can make selective decisions that aid in teeth whitening and stain removal.

Best practices for avoiding stains:

  • Avoid acidic foods and beverages. Acid softens tooth enamel, which usually protects our teeth from stains.
  • Avoid drinks with tannins, like wine and tea. Tannins make it easy for strains to stick to teeth.
  • Drink white and red wine sparingly. Both are acidic and have tannins.
  • Avoid foods with food coloring. A good indicator of food dye is a colored tongue!

How to remove stain from teeth:

  • Brush your teeth right after food and beverage to avoid acids and tannins from setting in.
  • Rinse your mouth- even just with water- if you can’t brush your teeth
  • See the dentist for cleanings. Cleanings will smooth out cracks that make easy deposits for colors and stains.
