Tooth extraction isn’t the most glamorous activity we schedule in our lives, but for many of us, it’s necessary! Removing wisdom teeth can help biting strength and overall mouth comfort and health.
After you have your teeth taken out, it’s important to follow advice toward an optimal recovery.
Gables Sedation Family Dentistry’s Top Tips after your Wisdom Teeth Extraction:
- Schedule your surgery around a time that you have the flexibility to heal- maybe during a winter or summer break.
- Whatever you do, don’t touch the extraction site!
- Opt for an ice pack and elevate your head to decrease swelling.
- Rinse your mouth with warm salt water to avoid infection.
- Avoid strenuous physical activity for about a week after your procedure.
- Resume regular oral hygiene care after 24 hours.
- Be careful with what you eat afterwisdom teeth extraction. Numbness after wisdom teeth surgery is totally normal, and it can make eating difficult! Imagine trying to chew when you can’t feel parts of your gums and tongue. Here are some general tips for eating post-surgery:
- Avoid foods with grainy particles, like tapioca pudding or blueberry smoothies.
- Avoid spicy foods. These particles and the ones mentioned above can get lodged in your extraction site and cause infection.
- Go for foods that require no chewing. Try apple sauce, soup broth, oatmeal, pudding, yogurt, ice cream or mashed potatoes.
- Don’t drink out of straws, it’s disruptive to the clots in your mouth.
